We are currently recruiting for a Social Media Content Manager to start asap in a public sector role based in the Belfast City Centre. The successful candidate will be required to start asap subject to approval of their CV, the registration/vetting process, proof of relevant qualifications and an Access NI background check.


Rate of pay: £19.76ph (Deputy Principal grade)


Duration: ASAP for 6 months with possible extension


Job duties:


  1. Proven creative ability in gathering original social media content including photography, video, infographics & audio.

  2. Proven creative & technological ability to produce and edit and post all video content.

  3. Thorough working knowledge of all social media platforms and practical knowledge of social media management platforms.

  4. Identifying & developing the social media needs of the Press Office and Corporate Communications Branch as well as the ever evolving requirements of managing the Department’s social media output.

  5. Delivering monthly social media reports.

  6. Good news sense, with an ability to see the story & identify angles, risks, sensitivities & opportunities.

  7. Development of social media channels and a strategy which reflects the department’s Business Plan and achieves priority PfGs.

  8. Supporting via social media the delivery communications advice that meets the needs of the Minister and senior officials, demonstrating sound judgement, and sensitivity.

  9. Setting the strategic direction and providing overall social media editorial control to ensure appropriate content, messaging, tone and consistency in line with the department’s communications strategy.

  10. Planning for and action of crisis communications and providing out of hours support.

  11. Review and evaluation of the effectiveness of social media channels communications against objectives.

  12. Proactively engaging with internal and external stakeholders to maximise social media communications opportunities.

  13. Supporting the department to improve customer & stakeholder engagement.




Post A level qualification eg HND/Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a related subject eg Communications/Marketing/Digital Marketing/Social Media/Journalism.

At least 3 years’ post qualification experience managing social media accounts and producing original and creative content, including video content, in a working environment.


Applicants should:

  • Demonstrate experience and understanding in managing the latest social media platforms to help promote the key messages of an organisation

  • Demonstrates experience of producing creative video content for social media platforms

  • Demonstrate experience in proactively sourcing content for social media output, which in turn has helped to grow follower numbers
