JOB SUMMARY:

The Post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising of Consultants in Health Protection, Health Protection Nurses and the Surveillance Officers to provide the operational response to the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we progress towards reducing social isolation – anticipating a substantial increase in the number of cases identified as COVID-19 positive, the PHA Health Protection Service is developing a national rapid, large scale system operating in three steps:

 Step 1 / Case: Identify contacts and advise on social isolation.

 Step 2 / Contacts: Identify links to case, seek testing and advise on social isolation.

 Step 3 / Control: Identify clusters and take action to prevent further spread

The post holder will work as an essential member of the test, track & trace team and contribute to the provision of a robust response to the control of COVID-19.The postholder will work in conjunction with other public health teams and key stakeholders contributing as required to the contact tracing response.

You will be expected to:

 participate in the provision of surge capacity to the PHA Health Protection Service to deliver the contact tracing functions ensuring adherence to agreed policies, protocols and guidelines

 participate in the rota seven days per week rota, 8am – 9pm

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 Work as a member of the Health Protection team to provide a timely and robust first- line operational response to the COVID-19 track and trace team as directed by the clinical contact tracing team

 Identify all those who were in contact with the infected person

 

 Initiate communication with the individual to inform them of their contact status.

 Provide the individual with information about the virus including symptoms to look out for and how to obtain a test in line with policy.

 Escalate issues/seek guidance on areas of concern to their superior where applicable

 Inform cases/patients/service users what actions to take if symptoms developed.

 Inform cases patients/service users how to prevent onward spread of the disease. .

 

 Work as part of a team of contact tracers who will provide the first point of contact of cases of COVID-19 (i.e. the people who have just received a positive result)

 Undertake case interviews in line with the contact tracing and management protocol and further protocols or guidance as indicated (45-60 mins)

 Ensure the timely and accurate recording of information from those interviews using systems provided.

 Provide information to cases and their contacts as directed by protocols and procedures.

 Ensure accurate, up to date records of contacts/action by completion of relevant records and compliance with team handover procedures, in line with PHA operational guidance and procedures

 Be able to (and be able to recognise the need to), modify and adapt methods of communication to account for the differing needs of contacts especially in stressful and difficult situations and ensure polite, efficient and appropriate communications exist at all times.

 Contribute to the maintenance of effective systems for the surveillance of COVID-19 through providing accurate data and information.

 

The role is office based (2 locations available) and the main duty is phoning Covid positive cases and associated data entry.

Base:                     County Hall, Ballymena or Linenhall Street, Belfast.

Hours:                  30 or 37.5 hours, immediate start until 31st March 2022, possibility extension up till June 2022

Shifts:                   8am-4pm, 9am – 5pm, 10am – 6pm and 8am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday

 

Criteria:

1a) GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above (or equivalent or higher) and two years relevant experience AND

2 A levels, equivalent or higher qualification AND

18 months relevant experience

OR

1b) Three years’ relevant experience. *

(* Relevant experience is defined as experience in an office based environment to include establishing administrative systems)

OR

1c) You must be currently engaged in and have successfully completed Year 2 as a student* in one of the following specialities at a recognised university;

  • dietician
  • occupational therapist
  • orthoptist
  • orthotist/prosthetist

*You will be required to submit a letter of support from your University

2 Experience of creating, operating and analysing excel spreadsheets

  1. Experience of using Microsoft Office including Word and PowerPoint 

Experience of using computer software to include the use of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.

Experience of inputting and extracting information from computer systems, databases and spreadsheets.

Experience of collating, analysing and presentation of information
