Purpose and Function of Post:

To provide marketing communication support for the Executive Office

The Marketing Communications Officer will deliver marketing and communications related activity for supported projects across 5 areas.

They will work closely with Executive Information Services to ensure that Ministerial, EIS and the Executive Office requirements are met.

The role will include research and drafting content for internal and external communications including speeches, briefings, newsletter, digital communications and responses to media enquiries.

The post holder will make connections between emerging news stories and relevant projects.

The post holder will also be expected to make connections and liaise with communication officers/teams involved in marketing and communications activities in support of other key strategic programmes within the Executive Office.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The post holder will:

· Support the Urban Villages team with all internal and external communications including contributing to the delivery of an integrated marketing communications strategy for Urban Villages Initiative.

· Produce a range of communications e.g. promotional materials, e-zines and newsletters, leaflets and contributions to internal Executive Office publications.

· Foreward plan and oversee the day-to-day content for the Urban Villages social media, including advising colleagues from other professional disciplines about proposed content

· Contribute towards maintaining cooperative relationships with representatives of community, consumer, employee, public interest groups and other stakeholders.

· Assisting in the co-ordination of Urban Village’s media strategy, including preparing and disseminating promotional and press material relating to projects in conjunction with EIS.

· Liaising with the local and regional media and facilitating interview requests and other queries.

· Promoting, marketing and advancing the UV brand, including co-ordinating events with our partners.

· Responsible for obtaining approval of marketing material.

· The ability to create news, manage the news and report the news.

· Briefing and helping designer/s devise creative concepts and source relevant images for marketing communications.

· Managing and analysing market research.

· Respond to communications enquiries, internal and external, including escalating issues to senior colleagues where appropriate.

Essential Criteria

1. (a) At least an undergraduate degree or higher qualification (i.e., a level 6 qualification or higher) with a minimum of 2 years* relevant post qualification experience in public relations, marketing communications or change management.
OR

(b) Holds an HNC/HND or equivalent in addition to a minimum of 5 years* relevant post qualification experience in public relations, marketing communications or change management.

*Please note that the working experience noted above must include experience of working a successful marketing communications campaigns.

3. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.

4. Excellent interpersonal and listening skills.

5. Strong technical knowledge and understanding of the marketing and communications field.

6. Ability to plan and organise workloads and meeting competing and challenging priorities.

7. Excellent spoken and written communication in an environment where complex and sensitive issues are being addressed.

8. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, particularly at community level.

9. Demonstrable ability to work efficiently and effectively whilst maintaining accuracy and attention for detail.

10. Ability to work with a team and on own initiative, including demonstrable ability to exercise sound judgment around issues to be escalated to senior colleagues.

11. Demonstrable political and cultural awareness and a sound knowledge of current affairs.

12. Knowledge of the full marketing communications mix.

13. Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

 

Desirable Criteria

Experience in working with community sector.

Proficient in Creative Cloud programme; competent in video recording/editing using phone or iPad for social media use
