Our client, a leading public sector organisation, based in Belfast are looking to recruit a Finance Officer to join their team.

The role is available immediately for four to eight weeks.

Hourly Pay: £16.18

37 hours per week Monday to Friday

Home based until office can reopen safely – offices remain closed due to Covid-19 pandemic

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintaining finance and related control systems throughout the Agency

  2. Managing staff in the Finance section.

  1. Administration of the Agency’s financial resource systems in line with Government accounting requirements:

  • Operation of the Agency’s financial accounting systems

  • Provision of expenditure out-turn, profiling and other financial reports

  • Timely and accurate preparation of the Agency’s monthly and annual accounts

  • Submit regular returns to department of finance and department of the economy and other relevant bodies

  • Liaise with pension provider, impact of McCloud judgement, general pension queries, new starts, leavers etc…

  • Ad-hoc financial exercises to support the DCS

  1. Operation the Agency’s payroll

  1. Ensuring the effective procurement of goods and service in line with all relevant public procurement guidance and procurement best practice in order to achieve consistently best value for money from the Agency’s expenditure.

  1. Preparing for audits and liaising with auditors

  1. Undertaking such duties as are commensurate with maintaining the integrity of the Agency and the good reputation of the services which it provides;

  1. Contributing to the planning and implementation of changes in services to meet customer needs;

  1. Participating in talks/seminars/workshops relating to the Agency’s statutory services;

  1. Supervising/providing support for business administration activities/programmes including HR, legislative and statutory compliance, and Information Technology.

  1. Supporting, as required, the work of Employment Relations Managers and Directors.


Essential Criteria:

Minimum qualifications, Accounting Technician standard

  • At least three years’ strong finance experience in public sector environment,

  • At least three years’ supervisory and administrative management.

  • Experience and knowledge in procurement of goods and services, ideally in a public sector environment.

  • Must have working experience of Sage 50 and Sage 200 cloud financial system.

  • Experience in the monthly preparation of Management accounts.

  • Proficient in the use of Excel.

  • Preparation of Management Accounts

  • Desirable to have experience of auditing financial systems.

  • Ability to work unsupervised and regularly meet tight time scales.
