JOB SUMMARY:
The postholder will report through to the Portering Supervisor to ensure the
maintenance of a clean, tidy and safe environment within the Ballymena Health
and Care Centre/Braid Valley Site. This will include opening, closing a number of
buildings, reporting faults/vandalism processing of postal items, delivery of stock
and services to buildings in the Ballymena catchment area, office moves and
room set-ups.

KEY RESULT AREAS / MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Portering
 Record keeping and to report and record incidents as required under Trust policy
 Liaison with building contractors for maintenance work as advised by the Portering
Supervisor to ensure access
 Completion of removal of domestic, clinical and confidential waste ( including sharps
boxes), complete recycling as appropriate
 Nominated Fire Officer duties including equipment checks according to designated
schedules, including checks of designated areas including fire doors
 Respond to adhoc requests in relation to operational issues on the site
 Operation of Braid Valley Site Cardboard Compactor in line with regulations
 Complete collection of bloods according to designated schedule
 Complete mail room duties on rotation with other staff to include the processing of
internal/external mail across all buildings on the Braid Valley site and Ballymena
catchment
 Van driving duties in rotation with other staff which includes collection of mail and waste
from offsite facilities
 Completing office moves and the removal of furniture and room/event setups
 Cleaning/maintenance of portering equipment, work areas and van in accordance with
relevant guidelines,ensuring the proper use of any equipment and reporting any defects
in equipment
 Completion of laundry duties to dedicated departments
Car Parking
 Support of car parking functions as required

 Logging of issues to fault desk for car park and other communal areas

Facility Related Duties
 To report faults/vandalism and security breaches in line with Trust guidance.
 To assist in the investigation of and to report incidents, accidents and
losses in line with Departmental/Trust Policy.
 Assist other portering staff with emergency evacuation of building etc including use of
evac chairs and control entry to buildings
 Locking/opening of dedicated doors and site checks
 Assistance with key access to dedicate areas
Undertaking any other duties appropriate to the grade as directed by the Supervisor or General
Manager

Essential Requirements

A minimum of one year’s experience within a
portering role

Hold a current full driving licence which is valid
for use in the UK and have access to a car on
appointment. This criteria will be waived in the
case of applicants whose disability prohibits
driving but who have access to a form of
transport approved by the Trust which will
permit them to carry out the duties of the post
The post holder must be able to work a variety of
shifts which will include early mornings, late
evenings and weekend work as and when
required

The post holder must be able to work additional
hours when required

This role is for a month, but might be extended
