In partnership with our client the Consumer Council ni we are currently recruiting a research officer to join their team

Hours – 9AM – 5PM Monday – Friday
Rate – £16.80 per hour
Location – Remote working at the moment

  1. Presently we are working from home as set out by Government guidelines. Should this position change, the appointee would be expected to attend the offices at Seatem House as and when required.

  1. Main Duties / Purpose Of Job/Function of Role

  1. Specific duties

 

  1. To work as part of a small team supporting the business to achieve its objectives as set out in The Consumer Council’s Corporate Plan and Forward Work Programme.

  2. To use MS Excel (and other tools) to provide timely and reliable data for the wider organisation.

  3. To carry out online web scraping, horizon scanning and monitoring of consumer issues

  4. To undertake analysis and interpretation of data, and to present this data in a digestible user-friendly manner.

  5. To create presentations, briefings and speaking notes for senior staff ahead of external speaking events, media interviews and internal meetings.

  6. To ensure all data analysis is rigorously undertaken and of a publishable standard i.e. can be reliably used in external publications such as reports, bulletins and infographics.

  7. To plan, commission and manage research projects with external suppliers in line with the Northern Ireland public sector procurement policies.

  8. To proactively support the wider organisation to design, deliver and write-up quantitative and qualitative research projects.

  9. To undertake policy impact analysis of emerging markets and resulting impacts for consumers.

  10. Other tasks as needed to support the Strategy & Emerging Markets Directorate, as well as the wider organisation as required.

 

  1. Specific Experience required

  1. This post requires a candidate with strong analytical and research skills. Therefore a candidate with a Level 6 qualification in which a major component is economics or statistics is preferable.

  1. Strong attention to detail and confidence to proof-read effectively, especially in relation to numbers and statistical data.

  2. Strong experience of using MS Excel in the workplace. As well as other Microsoft Office packages such as PowerPoint, Word and Outlook. Microsoft Power BI experience is desirable but not essential.

  3. Confidence and initiative to interpret and present data in a user-friendly way.

  4. Experience of working in a busy team with plenty of ad hoc quantitative requests.

  5. Experience of project management with strong organisational and time management skills, and using own initiative to problem solve and be solutions-focused.

  6. Experiencing of planning, commissioning and managing external research projects.

  7. Experience of writing up quantitative research findings, e.g. interpreting survey results into reports or bulletins.

  8. Knowledge of the Northern Ireland public procurement process is a huge plus but not essential.
