Waste and Resource Management Chargehand

37 hours a week

8 week post with possible extension

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Responsible to the Waste & Resource Management Supervisors for the day-to-day supervision of the Council’s Household Recycling Centres. To ensure the services are carried out in accordance with the Quality Standards set by the Council.

 

Assist the Waste & Resource Management Supervisors to manage human, physical, and financial resources to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Provide leadership, monitoring of performance, continuous service improvement and quality of service delivery in compliance with current legislation and regulations.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Assist in the delivery of the day-to-day operation of the Council’s Household Recycling Centres including the deployment, supervision, and control of Waste & Resource Management operatives to ensure the delivery of a quality service and in line with the section Business plan.

Assist in ensuring that Household Recycling Centres are clean, customer focussed, open and closed at designated times, fully serviced by in-house and out-sourced contractors and remain legally compliant at all times.

Assist in ensuring that staff are provided with the necessary plant, equipment and materials to carry out their work effectively and efficiently, working closely with the Fleet Management to ensure all vehicles and plant are serviced and maintained

 

 

EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS

· A minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grades A-C) to include English and Maths or equivalent

Consideration may be given to those candidates who do not hold the above academic qualifications but who can demonstrate a minimum of 2 years’ experience as below.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 1 years’ relevant supervisory experience e.g. refuse collection, street cleansing, household recycling centre

KEY SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Strong organisational and time management skills

· Ability to work with minimum supervision

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE

· Working knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations, including manual handling;

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows applications

OTHER

· A full current driving licence or, if a disability prevents driving, access to a suitable form of transport to enable the duties of the post to be carried out in full
